Nelson Mandela was one of the world´s most important defenders of peace, he has fought against the military government of his country.
Mandela was born in South Africa in 1918, his parents were Gadla and Nodekeni, Xhosa was his mother tongue.
He started to work when he was five years old in Herding family´s Cattle while studying in the misión school. He studied law in Johannesburg.
In 1942 he joined African National Congress (ANC), after five year he was Youth League Secretary, and in 1952 he was Deputy Head of ANC.
He has been married 3 times, his first wife was Evelyn Ntoko, in 1958 he got married with Winnie Madikizela, and his last wife was Graca Machel.
In 1963 Mandela was sentenced to life term for anti-government activities, but after 27 years was liberated. He was the person of the year in 1993 because he won the Nobel Peace Prize.
He was the first democratically elected president of South Africa from 1994 until 1999 winning with 62% of vote.
After his retirement he has raised money for children´s charities.
Before I finish, let me say that Mandela was a fighter for the democracy, and he said that "The time for the healing of the wounds has come. The moment to bridge the chasms that divide us has come. The time to build is upon us."
